Donations (Dana)

In Mahayana Buddhism it is encouraged to practice the 6 paramitas - or perfections - in one's daily life. Giving, precepts, effort, patience, meditation and wisdom are the ingredients of the life of a bodhisattva. Dana paramita, or giving, is the first petal of the flower of the paramitas. Generosity is a way we can create a sense of connection between self and others, bringing joy to giver and receiver.

Jikishoan exists in Melbourne through the giving of our Teacher, Ekai Korematsu Osho and his family; through people's participation in the practice; and, through the generous support of many benefactors within and outside of Jikishoan who contribute time and money.

Thank you for your kindness as we seek to grow as a community dedicated to promoting the teachings of Shakyamuni Buddha in Australia for the welfare and peace of all.

There are a number of ways that you can help Jikishoan continue Zen Buddhist practice in Melbourne:

Dana to the Teacher

Traditionally, dana, a gift between student and teacher, is made as a gesture of gratitude toward the teacher. Fees for courses and retreats generally only cover food, accommodation and basic expenses. The giving of dana is by no means compulsory, but is gratefully accepted to assist in the livelihood of the teacher.

Dana is usually given via a dana box, located at the Sanzenkai reception desk.

Building Fund

Jiishoan Zen Buddhist Community is raising fund to purchase a building to be used as a temple in the Melbourne metropolitan area.  The facility will ideally have a Zendo kitchen and office with room also for accommodation.

Donations of $2 of more are tax deductible and can be made in person or by cheque to: Jikishoan Zen Buddhist Community Inc. (Building Fund Account) P.O.Box 475, Yarraville 3013, Victoria, Australia.  Please provide a stamped self addressed envelope for a receipt to be mailed to you.

General Donations

Jiksihoan Zen Buddhist Community is a voluntary organisation and relies on membership fees and course and activity income to fund its operations.  Any donation to support the activities of Jikishoan is gratefully received.

Donations can be made in person or by cheque payable to: Jikishoan Zen Buddhist Community Inc. (General Donation) P.O.Box 475, Yarraville 3013 Victoria, Australia.  Please provide a stamped self addressed envelope for a receipt to be mailed to you.

Other Fund Raising

From time-to-time Jiksihoan undertakes fund raising in support of causes that assist with the alleviation of people's suffering, such as the Japan Disaster Appeal in 2011.

Information will be posted here when such projects are underway.
